One-page resume

One-Page Resume Template

How long should a resume be? For most people, one page: students, recent graduates, and anyone with under about 10 years of relevant experience. Two pages are fine for experienced professionals, managers, and roles that need detail, as long as the second page is at least half full. Academic CVs and federal resumes can be longer. CVMark's templates show page breaks in the live preview, so you can see exactly when you're about to spill onto page two.

Should a Resume Be One Page?

Usually, yes. Stick to one page if you:

  • Are a student, recent graduate, or early-career candidate
  • Have under 10 years of relevant experience
  • Are changing careers and only some experience is relevant

Recruiters skim quickly, and a tight one-page resume puts your best achievements where they'll be seen. More detail in how long should a resume be.

How Many Pages Can a Resume Be?

  • One page: most job seekers
  • Two pages: 10+ years of relevant experience, management or senior roles, technical roles with many projects, or a long list of required certifications
  • Three or more: generally only academic CVs, federal (USAJOBS) resumes, and some executive or medical CVs

Does a resume have to be one page? No. But every line on page two has to earn its place.

How to Fit Your Resume on One Page

Cut content before you shrink the formatting:

  1. Remove jobs older than 10–15 years, or condense them into one line
  2. Cut bullets that describe duties instead of results
  3. Merge short sections (like certifications and skills)
  4. Shorten your summary to two or three lines
  5. Then reduce margins to 0.5–0.75 inch, and font to 10.5–11 pt (no smaller than 10)

Two-Page Resume Rules

If you need two pages:

  • Put your strongest experience on page one
  • Make sure page two is at least half full
  • Add your name and page number to page two
  • When printing, use two separate sheets, not double-sided. See should a resume be double-sided
