Harvard Resume Template

The Harvard resume template is the clean, one-page, single-column format popularized by Harvard's Office of Career Services: name and contact details centered at the top, education first for students, then experience, leadership, and skills, with tight, results-driven bullets. CVMark's Professional template follows the same traditional layout, and you can reorder sections to match the Harvard format exactly. Build and preview it for free.

Professional template

Single-column and traditional, like the Harvard format. Reorder sections to put Education first.

Harvard Resume Format: Section by Section

  1. Header: name in larger type, then city, phone, email, and LinkedIn on one line
  2. Education: university, degree, graduation date, GPA (if strong), honors, and relevant coursework
  3. Experience: organization, title, location, and dates, with three to five achievement bullets
  4. Leadership and activities: clubs, athletics, volunteering, and projects
  5. Skills and interests: technical skills, languages, certifications, and a few specific interests

Students and recent graduates put education first. Experienced professionals usually move it below experience.

Harvard Style Resume Rules

  • One page for students and early-career candidates
  • No summary or objective in the traditional version (some people add a short one)
  • Bullets start with action verbs and include numbers
  • Consistent formatting: same date style, alignment, and spacing throughout
  • Conservative font, like Times New Roman or Garamond at 10.5–12 pt
  • No photo, graphics, or color

See our Harvard resume format guide for full examples.

Harvard Business School Resume Template Tips

HBS-style and MBA resumes follow the same format with a few twists:

  • Lead with impact and leadership: team size, budget, and outcomes
  • Keep bullets to one or two lines
  • Include an "Additional" section for languages, skills, and memorable interests
  • Put GMAT/GRE scores under education only if they're strong

For consulting-style resumes, see our consulting resume guide.

Harvard CV Template vs. Resume

In the US, a Harvard-style resume is one page. A CV for academic roles is longer and adds research, publications, teaching, and grants. Outside the US, "CV" often just means resume. If you're applying for academic positions, see our graduate student CV guide.
