UK CV template

UK CV Template

Use this UK CV format template to apply for jobs in the United Kingdom. A UK CV is usually two pages, starts with a short personal profile, lists experience in reverse chronological order, and leaves out photos, date of birth, and marital status. CVMark's templates follow these conventions and work for applications across the UK, Ireland, and other countries that use British-style CVs. Fill one in or upload your CV, and preview it free.

UK CV Format

  1. Name and contact details: phone, email, town or city, LinkedIn (no full address needed)
  2. Personal profile: three to five lines about who you are and what you offer
  3. Work experience: reverse chronological, with achievements
  4. Education and qualifications: degree classification (e.g., 2:1), A-levels or equivalent if early-career
  5. Skills
  6. Optional: languages, volunteering, interests

Length: two pages is standard; one page for school leavers and graduates.

What Not to Include on a UK CV

  • Photo (not expected in the UK)
  • Date of birth, age, marital status, nationality (unless relevant to right to work)
  • "References available on request"
  • Full postal address (town and postcode area is enough)

You can mention right to work in the UK if relevant. See should you put a photo on your resume.

UK Style CV vs. US Resume

  • Name: "CV" in the UK; "resume" in the US
  • Length: UK CVs are often two pages; US resumes aim for one
  • Spelling: use British English (organised, programme, licence)
  • Education: UK CVs list degree classifications; US resumes list GPA

See CV maker and how to spell résumé.

Australia, Canada, and Singapore Formats

  • Australia: called a "resume," often two to three pages, sometimes with referees listed
  • Canada: follows US-style resumes, one to two pages, no photo
  • Singapore: resumes often include nationality or work pass status; see Singapore resume templates
  • Europe: see the Europass CV
