Are Canva Resume Templates ATS-Friendly?
It depends on the template. Applicant tracking systems read text in order, top to bottom. Designs that rely on multiple columns, text boxes, icons, or text inside graphics can be read out of order or partly skipped, so your experience may not reach the recruiter the way you intended.
Some Canva resume templates are simple enough to parse well. The safest test: export your Canva resume as a PDF, select all the text, and paste it into a plain text editor. If it comes out jumbled, an ATS may struggle too. Or run it through our free ATS resume checker.
Canva Resume Builder vs. a Dedicated Resume Builder
Canva is a design tool: you get creative freedom, but the writing and structure are up to you.
A resume builder like CVMark handles structure and formatting for you, adds AI help with summaries and bullets, and focuses on ATS compatibility.
Many people use both: a designed Canva CV template for networking and portfolios, and an ATS-friendly version for online applications.
Canva CV Template Look, ATS-Safe Layout
If you like Canva's clean, modern look, CVMark's Minimal and Modern templates offer a similar style. For online applications, the single-column Professional template is the safest choice. You can switch templates in one click without retyping anything. See ATS-friendly resume templates.
How to Move Your Resume From Canva to CVMark
- In Canva, download your resume as a PDF.
- In CVMark, click Upload your resume and select the PDF.
- Check the imported sections, then pick a template.
- Run the free ATS check against your target job.
Heavily designed PDFs sometimes import imperfectly, so give each section a quick review.
