Use Your Resume to Prepare for the Job Interview
Interviewers ask about what's on your resume, so every bullet should have a story behind it. For each achievement, prepare:
- The situation and what was at stake
- What you did, specifically
- The result, with numbers if possible
Bring printed copies of your resume, and make sure the version you bring matches the one you applied with. See should a resume be double-sided for printing tips.
Answer With the STAR Method
STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) keeps behavioral answers clear and concise:
Question: Tell me about a time you handled an unhappy customer.
Answer: A client was about to cancel after a billing error (Situation). I needed to keep the account (Task). I fixed the error, credited a month, and set up weekly check-ins (Action). They renewed for two more years (Result).
Practice a STAR story for each major skill on your resume. More in our guide to behavioral interview questions and the STAR method.
